3 Reasons you should learn Photography today
Bukkoji, Kyoto, Japan
1) It is a great way to document your life story
Ever found a photo that triggered a memory?
I remember taking lots of photos on film cameras when I was a child. Looking at photos is a powerful way to trigger wonderful memories of birthdays, childhood friends, and how hipster my parents were. Good times!
Unfortunately, when I entered high school, I developed a bad case of acne and absolutely hated the way I looked. I stopped taking photos.
No photos to remember my younger days. So the following is a drawing of me in 2010.
Years passed by, I graduated from university, and traveled the world but never documented anything on camera. This period of my life became a memory “black hole” as I have no photos to trigger memories.
Try documenting your life in photos every week, heck, even daily if possible. Create photo memory triggers that will help you remember the story of your life when you grow older.
2) You will be more creative
Photography is a great way to get your creative juices flowing. We see the extraordinary in the ordinary. To take good photos, you have to try different angles and perspectives.
You have to solve problems, like what would you do if the lighting is flat or if the weather changes.
Finally, you will also develop an eye to see visual patterns that make good photo compositions. Photography is definitely a great exercise for your creativity!
3) Great way to meet new people
Photography is not only a hobby, it is a community. Also, not all people who love photography are purely photographers. Creative people in general…designers, IT professionals, illustrators, artists, circus performers etc probably also love photography. When you get into photography, you can connect with a whole new community of creatives not only in your local area but also all over the world.
