What to wear for a Cherry Blossom Photo Shoot?

Cherry Blossom season is here again! One of the most frequently asked questions I get from my clients is what to wear when taking photos with cherry blossoms.

I can’t give fashion advice but from the perspective of a photographer, I can tell you what colors and outfits go well with cherry blossoms!

4 types of outfits go well with cherry blossoms. They are neutral, pastel, shades of pink and floral outfits.

Neutral Colors

When in doubt, always choose light or neutral colors. Below are some examples of neutral colors.

Neutral Colors

Men usually prefer neutral colors because they already have a white shirt or light brown pants in their wardrobe. It is also hard to go wrong with neutrals!

Pastel Colors

If you really want that extra wow factor, try pastel color outfits. Below are some examples of pastel colors. Pastels look great on both men and women and they communicate joy! Don’t be afraid to try pastel-colored outfits!

Floral Patterns

Floral patterns look fab with cherry blossoms!

However, if you are doing a couple shoot, you or your partner should balance out the floral designs with a non-patterned outfit. Cherry blossoms make photos look busy and floral patterns add to the busyness. Having one person wear a non-patterned outfit will help ‘balance’ out the scene.

Shades of Pink

You won’t go wrong with shades of pink! Cherry blossoms are pink and they go well with shades of pink. Below are some examples!

Accessorize!

Accessories can play a big role in creating a cohesive and stylish look. Here are some popular accessory options:

Hats are a good way to accessorize

  1. Hat: A wide-brimmed hat in a neutral color such as white, beige, or light brown can help protect your skin from the sun and add a stylish touch to your outfit.

  2. Jewelry: Keep jewelry simple and delicate, such as stud earrings, a thin chain necklace, or a delicate bracelet. Avoid chunky or flashy jewelry that may detract from the focus of the photo.

  3. Flowers: Consider carrying a small bouquet of flowers or wearing a flower crown to complement the cherry blossom flowers in the background.

  4. Sunglasses: A stylish pair of sunglasses can protect your eyes from the sun and add a touch of glamour to your photos.

  5. Scarf: A light, airy scarf in a pastel color can add an extra pop of color and texture to your outfit, and can also be used to protect your skin from the sun or to add warmth on a cooler day.

Remember to choose accessories that complement your outfit and make you feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera.

Avoid Darks

If you have to wear dark colors such as black pants, bear in mind that it will make the scene look heavy and pull the attention away from the beautiful blossoms (see photo below). However, a quick fix would be to balance it out with a light or neutral color shirt.

Conclusion

The Cherry Blossom season is a season of joy. So wear colors that make you happy! I recommend neutrals, pastels, shades of pink and floral patterns.

Bear in mind that the stars of the photo should be the blossoms and you equally. So always try to balance out floral patterns with a solid or neutral color and darks with light colors. Also to create that extra omph! Accessorize!

Lastly, have a great time taking memorable photos with the blossoms!
